Anderson is located in the Western Upstate of South Carolina, just minutes from Interstate 85, Clemson, and Greenville.
Anderson is the seat of Anderson County and part of the Greenville-Spartanburg- Anderson metro area.
Known as the Electric City, Anderson was given this nickname in the 19th century when it became the first city in the
south to make use of long distance cables to carry electricity generated from power plants. In 1897, Anderson had
electric streetcars, street lamps, and the world’s first electrically powered cotton gin. Today, Anderson is also known as the Friendliest City in South Carolina.
Home to Anderson University and beautiful Lake Hartwell, one of the Southeast’s largest and most popular recreational lakes. Anderson has a great selection of dining options, shopping, recreational activities, and cultural attractions including golf and tennis, public parks, performing arts venues, sporting events, museums and galleries, and more.
